Fun with Mail

On Pinterest, I came across a blog called The Givers Log.  On the Givers log, the blogger sends all sorts of fun things through the mail.  I guess as long as an item is under 13 ounces, it can be sent through the mail with stamps on it.

On Easter Sunday, my sister in law and my aunt were discussing if these things could REALLY go through the mail.  The next day, I decided to start a mail experiment of my own.

I went to the dollar tree, picked up some random things, and sent them to a few of my closest friends, and of course included my sister in law and aunt in on the fun.

I was a little nervous about sending these out.  I of course just went to a local mailbox and dropped them in. I was a worried that if I brought them into the post office that they would refuse to mail them out.

1) For my ( new) sister in law Sarah, i sent a package of nerds. Sarah lives in Des Moines.  I wrote the address and put the stamps right on the package.

A Day later, she received them!

2)  For Aunt Dorothy, I sent a bag with a little bit of candy inside.  I taped the bag shut and wrote the address right on the bag. Aunt Dorothy lives in the Iowa City area.

And a Day later she received this in her mailbox!

3)  For my Friend Sandra who lives in Chicago, I sent these glow bracelets.

She received them 2 days after I sent them!

4) I sent my Friend Karen a book for her daughter, my Goddaughter.

She received her book in two days!

5) For my oldest friend, Alexis who lives in DC, I sent this fun scribble pad!

And she received it about 5 days later!

So yeah! all of my random t hings were received!  I must say that I did feel a little silly when I was placing these items in my local mail box ( without a return address)

Now, I am trying to think of ideas for fun invitations for my sons first birthday party.  ( I only have 6 months to plan!)

Fathers day bottle costumes

I like to plan holidays in advance.  My husbands first Fathers day is no exception.  This June will be my husbands first Fathers day and I want to make sure that its a special day for him.

If you are a reader of my blog, you know that my husband Greg enjoys a good beer now and then. ( What can I say? We live in Iowa and are Catholic)

Why not decorate something your husband or dad REALLY wants for Fathers Day with items that they REALLY DON"T want for Fathers Day?

Such as a Tie that says #1 dad on it!

I made these Fathers Day bottle costumes with craft foam.  Craft foam can get a little wet, and Its made of material similar to a Koozie.  I cut all these costumes out freehand  and decorated them with  3d Puff Paint. ( Which if you are a reader of this blog, you should know that I use it quite often when crafting)

I used craft twine to attach the Bottle costume onto the bottle.

What if the Fathers in your family don't drink beer?

Put them on Dad's root beer! When I was a kid we ALWAYS celebrated Fathers day by making root beer floats as a family.

These are on sale at my Etsy shop if you feel like having someone else craft for you!

Hope I have given you some Fathers day inspiration!

Homemade Dominoes

Since becoming parents a few months ago, my husband and I have gotten into the habit of playing games with each other over a glass of wine and an appetizer after the little guy has gone to sleep for the night.

I thought it would be fun to play Dominoes, a game we frequently play at my husband's parents house.

We didn't have any Dominoes in our home, so I decided to make some! Making a set of Dominoes was inexpensive and easy.

Here is how you make your own set of felt Dominoes

1) I did some research online, to see how many pieces were in a set and how many of each kind of Domino there was. I found my answers at wikipedia.com.

2) I cut a piece of felt into 28 ( mostly) equal pieces.

3) I used white 3d Puffy Paint to paint the dots onto the Domino pieces.

4) I waited an hour for my Dominoes to dry.

My felt Dominoes were a hit with my husband, there are plenty of Domino games that revolve around just 2 people.  Of course we plan on inviting people over to play sometime too!

S'mores!

I feel like it has been S'mores season for a while now.  This spring/summer season we have had in Southeast Iowa this year has been AMAZING!  We have been grilling, spending a large amount of time outside and of course making S'mores!

A few weeks ago ( when it was mid March) we went to a cookout and I made these cute S'more brownie bites.

These were easy to make and a big hit!  I just used box brownie mix and baked them in mini cupcake holders.  When the brownie bites were almost done I topped them with some mini marshmallows and graham crackers and continued to bake them for about 5 more minutes.

While I was looking for S'mores recipes on the web. I came across some REALLY beautiful and creative S'mores recipes that I would like to share with you!
