Fun with Mail

On Pinterest, I came across a blog called The Givers Log.  On the Givers log, the blogger sends all sorts of fun things through the mail.  I guess as long as an item is under 13 ounces, it can be sent through the mail with stamps on it.

On Easter Sunday, my sister in law and my aunt were discussing if these things could REALLY go through the mail.  The next day, I decided to start a mail experiment of my own.

I went to the dollar tree, picked up some random things, and sent them to a few of my closest friends, and of course included my sister in law and aunt in on the fun.

I was a little nervous about sending these out.  I of course just went to a local mailbox and dropped them in. I was a worried that if I brought them into the post office that they would refuse to mail them out.

1) For my ( new) sister in law Sarah, i sent a package of nerds. Sarah lives in Des Moines.  I wrote the address and put the stamps right on the package.

A Day later, she received them!

2)  For Aunt Dorothy, I sent a bag with a little bit of candy inside.  I taped the bag shut and wrote the address right on the bag. Aunt Dorothy lives in the Iowa City area.

And a Day later she received this in her mailbox!

3)  For my Friend Sandra who lives in Chicago, I sent these glow bracelets.

She received them 2 days after I sent them!

4) I sent my Friend Karen a book for her daughter, my Goddaughter.

She received her book in two days!

5) For my oldest friend, Alexis who lives in DC, I sent this fun scribble pad!

And she received it about 5 days later!

So yeah! all of my random t hings were received!  I must say that I did feel a little silly when I was placing these items in my local mail box ( without a return address)

Now, I am trying to think of ideas for fun invitations for my sons first birthday party.  ( I only have 6 months to plan!)

Bunny Mail

I wanted to send some Easter Bible verses to my Goddaughter, Katelyn.  I guess I got a little carried away. ( Sometimes when I get in a crafty mood, I will turn into a 5 year old)

I was feeling a little silly and decided to turn Katelyn's Easter envelope into a Easter Bunny.

I made the Bunny ears out of Leftover fleece.  The Nose out of a little piece of Fun Foam, and I drew the Easter Bunny's face out of Sharpies.

I then glued a cotton ball to the back of the envelope as the " Easter Bunny's tail"

I sent it off a few days ago, I really wish I could be at my friends house ( Katelyn's mom) When she gets this in the mail and is like " What the heck is Kristen sending us now?"

I think it turned out cute.

English Scones with Royal wedding themed toppers!

I am so excited about the upcoming nuptials between Prince William and Kate Middleton!  I am going to have my DVR running all day!

I came up with a cute appetizer/snack you can make for the big event, along with some "English themed toppers" to help educate your guests about English culture.

I LOVE England. Visiting England was one of my favorite trips ever!

Here are some of the "English themed Toppers I came up with.

1) English " telephone box"topper.- I made this topper using craft foam and a sharpie.
2) English " Fish and Chips" topper.-  I used this topper using craft foam.
3) English " Broach" topper.- This was a piece of cardboard decorated with jewels I had laying around.

4) The " Will and Kate" tea topper.- I covered the tea  label with a craft foam" Will and Kate Label" and wrote their names with puffy paint.
5) The "English Rose" topper.- Made with craft foam.
6). The " All you need is Love"  Beatles T- shirt topper.-r Made with computer graphics, craft foam and puffy paint.

THEN. I made a simple English Scone Recipe that I found online

I added LOTS of raisins. I LOVE raisins cooked in things.

Rolled out the dough, and cut out circles using a small glass.

Brush the scones lightly with egg wash. and bake @ 400 degrees for 15 minutes.

Serve with Butter and jam. Red plum jam is my favorite!

Hope you enjoy!

Coach Purse for Barbie

Made from Craft foam, Puffy paint and a hot glue gun.  Great for Barbie or also can be used for a Trendy Girl Scout Swap!

I need not say anything more. ( for I am a childless adult who happens to have a huge bin of craft foam)

Breakfast Toppers!

Its the Blizzard of 2011!! and this morning was my first snow day EVER ( as an adult.) I came up with this idea as I was falling back asleep at five this morning, after I realized that my work had closed ( for the morning at least) when I started dreaming about how I was going to make pancakes for breakfast!

Here is a photo of the snow that has accumulated on my deck. ( Yes, I choose to live in the midwest)

I used to be a Girl Scout leader, so I don't know if you are familiar with Girl Scout Swaps, but these breakfast inspired " thingamajigs" are (were) Girl Scout swaps. Click Here to learn about Girl Scout Swaps. ( even if you don't have a scout, and you like to craft, you are in for a treat!)  so these were Swaps that my Girl Scout troop had done, and I still had.  I hot glued toothpicks to the back of them in order to make breakfast food toppers!!

Here is How:

The French Toast Topper
Assemble an Eiffel Tower out of a pipe cleaner. French flag is optional. Glue on your tooth pick

.
The Pancake Topper
This is made from craft foam and Puffy paint ( there it is again) The Pancakes, the Pan and the Butter are made from craft foam and the syrup is made from brown Puffy paint

The Eggs and Bacon Topper
( This would be so cute on a breakfast casserole)
The entire topper is made from craft foam and a toothpick is glued on back

So I hope you enjoy. This would be a great idea to use for a special brunch! These are easy and VERY thrifty!
